Description

Fred Hembeck – X-Men Illustration Original Art (1978). A very early example of Fred Hembeck’s beloved cartoony style, verified by Hembeck himself as one of the first pieces he produced in that style! It was created for a fanzine in February of 1978, but went unpublished. Hembeck is well remembered for his long-running strip Dateline: @#$!. The piece features the then-current line-up of the Uncanny X-Men (with a couple of guests)… Original X-Men Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman, Beast, and Professor X… as well as “All-New/All-Different” X-Men Banshee, Nightcrawler, Storm, Colossus, Jean Grey/Phoenix, and Wolverine. Also included are the Blue and Furry version of the Beast, and Cyclops’ father Corsair of the Starjammers. Crafted in ink with some intense cross-hatching in the background on Bristol board with an image area of 15″ x 10″.
